About the School

Sri Ramakrishna Math National School was started in the year 1906 due to the endeavors of Swami Ramakrishnananda, fondly remembered as Shashi Maharaj, who was a direct disciple of divine Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, under the aegis of Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai. The school caters to about 370 students from the under-privileged, socially and economically weaker sections of society, many of whose parents are daily wage laborers of North Chennai Region. Initially the school was started in a rented building at No 6, Krishnappa Naicken Agrahara Street and continued functioning there till 1978. Presently, it is located in its own building on the Basin Bridge Road in Mint imparting primary education in both Tamil and Telugu medium for classes I to V. The School grooms the students holistically using Activity Based Learning (ABL) to build them as pillars of future society as envisioned by Swami Vivekananda.
Survey shows that majority of the children come from poor socio-economic background
School Students

Moved by the condition of uneducated children of labour classes who lived in and around Mint area, Swami Ramakrishnananda started the school in 1906, by begging from door-to-door, in a rented building where they were taught and supplied with study needs, all free of cost.
